The length of toll motorways in Hungary has increased by more than 200 km as of January 1, 2024. According to the decree published by the Ministry of Construction and Transportation on December 5, the total length of toll road sections in the country has expanded by 230 km starting from January.
According to the legislation, the following road sections have become toll roads:
- The entire M0 motorway, marking a significant change as the previously toll-free sections of the M0 motorway (M0 southern and eastern sectors, Megyeri Bridge) are now subject to tolls. From 2024, the entire M0 motorway is toll-required for users of the e-vignette system; however, the Pest county vignette is sufficient on this road.
- The entire length of the M4, where, in addition to the Pest county vignette, the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county vignette must also be purchased.
- The entire M44, where the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Békés county vignettes will be introduced, and the Bács-Kiskun county vignette is valid for a short section, up to Tiszakürt.
- The entire M30 motorway, after the toll exemption between Miskolc south and Miskolc north ceases. However, with the Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county vignette, the motorway can be used throughout its length.
- The M31 will also become tolled, and the Pest county vignette is sufficient here.
- The M76 from Balatonszentgyörgy to Keszthely-Fenékpuszta, where the Somogy and Zala county vignettes are also valid.
All this means that as of January 1, 2024, the list of toll roads has expanded with two more counties: Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Békés.
It is therefore advisable to consider these factors when selecting the appropriate vignettes and plan ahead. For motorway vignette purchase, click on our virpay.hu website!
